Monitoring "Winter Outdoor Tour to KUJI City" Overview
The purpose of this monitoring tour is to let overseas visitors learn about Kuji City's agricultural and marine products and tourist attractions, as well as to experience Kuji City's unique gastronomic offerings. This time, the main spots of the tour will be the Hiraniwa Kogen Ski Resort in Yamagata Town and the central city area of Kuji City. Yamagata Town is famous for the raising and production of Japanese Shorthorn Beef and its local cuisine “Mamebu”.
This area is also famous for its one of the most beautiful birch forests in Japan and its bullfighting arena. As a place of recreation and relaxation, it is well known not only to tourists but also to local residents as a place where ski slopes, trekking courses, bullfighting arena, and lodging facilities are all in one place. On this tour, we will first eat “mamebu,” a local dish, and then enjoy snowboarding/skiing. Equipment and clothing can be rented on the spot.
After having fun in the snow, you can enjoy Yamagata-mura's specialty “Yamagata-mura Shorthorn Beef” barbecue with beer produced in Iwate Prefecture. After dinner, participants can enjoy a hands-on Iwate folk song class and karaoke. Let's enjoy playing in the snow, barbecue, and music in the winter, when people tend to lack exercise, and stay energized!
On the second day, a walk through a white birch forest, a visit to a charcoal factory, and a “Mamebu” museum, all unique to Kuji, await you. In the center of Kuji, you will also enjoy a menu of Yamagata-mura Shorthorn Beef, which is different from barbecue. We hope you will join us!
What is Yamagata-mura TANKAKU-GYU?
The Japanese Shorthorn Cattle: TANKAKU-GYU is a breed unique to Japan, improved by crossing the Nanbu Cattle, which have long been raised in the northern Tohoku region, with the introduced Shorthorn Breed. They are suitable for grazing and can withstand the severe cold of Hokkaido and Tohoku region. Today, they are bred mainly in Iwate, Aomori, Akita prefectures and Hokkaido. Yamagata Village in Kuji City is known as the center of TANKAKU-GYU breeding and production in Iwate Prefecture. Compared to the fatty KUROGE-WAGYU Beef, Ymagata-mura TANKAKU-GYU is characterized by its low fat content and high quality lean meat that is rich in glutamic acid and inosinic acid, which are tasty components.
